Follow up [Sep. 11th, 2005|01:40 am]
Went to the doctor again on Friday to follow up on my emergancy room visit. The Doc I talked to couldn't speak english well and blew off most of my symptoms. He also put me on zoloft.

Whatever, I'm sure it will help my stress but I'm not sure that's why I'm having problems. Either way my symptoms are getting lighter. I ate a big meal tonight and didn't have troubles breathing like last Sunday. I have the weird lump in my throat like my adams apple isn't lining up right. But that happens from time to time anyways. I really wish I could try my new beer :(.

I scoured the city for RAM today. The only 1 GB DIMM that I could find that fits in my mini cost $350. I'll just order it online for $250 less thank you very much.

Incremental improvements to existing products [Sep. 7th, 2005|09:40 pm]
This one is dedicated to all you apple and google guys out there.

With all the wailing and gnashing of teeth that comes about after every release you'd think people have never seen this before. They've never bought a book that had sequels or an OS that didn't need to be patched.

I'd rather support a company that releases 20 incremental but noticeable different products/product improvements a year, then support a company that sits on it's thumbs for five years, releases a buggy product, and goes into auto pilot for another 5 years. All this hype and hullabaloo also helps to drive competition into a fury and maybe even into making better products. Thanks fun companies, for at least trying a little.

And also note that the practicality of a product isn't always it's greatest selling point. In the tech industry, it's OFTEN about the 'next big thing'. Adopting new ideas/applications early helps you ride into the future with as little work as possible, and is FUN. This is not new, if you're synical about it then for fuck sakes buy a cd player/get aim and be happy. Technology should serve you, not visa verca.

Panic Attack [Sep. 2nd, 2005|01:08 pm]
I've talked about my panic attacks before, last night it got really bad. I went into the hospital at 3am. It was frightening and uncomfortable, i felt like I needed to breath ALOT, and I felt really dizzy. But it's probably just a combination of things that are wrong. Some tests are still out, buy my potassium is low and my asthma was flaring up, the doctor even thought this could have something to do with acid reflux. I'm just one unhealthy dude.

Current favorite podcasts [Aug. 29th, 2005|09:23 pm]
[music |CGS #50]

Man I've been listening to alot of podcasts as of late, here's the rundown of my top choices :

1: Comic Geek Speak
A great show with a bunch of unabashed comic nerds. These guys produce a generally good sounding show and have a great on air personality. They've single handedly got me interested in collecting comics.

2: This Week in Tech
Bla bla bla Leo Laporte, and an interesting tech show. I'm not as crazy for this show as some people, probably because I've never watched tech tv. But it's a fun show to listen to.

3: The Bitterest Pill
A disaffected commercial actor talks about his life. Usually entertaining.

4: MAKE Magazine
A sometimes complimentary podcast to the magazine I enjoy so much :D.

---Notable Mentions----
Podcasts I download but don't always enjoy

Craft Beer Radio:
An informative craft beer radio show, especially interesting because of my intrest in beer brewing. Unfortunately the hosts get a bit too zealous sometimes, but it can be a good show.

Digital Strips:
A podcast dedicated to online comics. The audio quality can be shoddy sometimes, and the hosts quabble a bit too much, but still an informative show worth checking out if you want to find some new online comics.

It took me awhile [Aug. 25th, 2005|06:59 pm]
But I finally found a client that will work on the google talk network. Adium is a neat little OSX application that supports all the major protocolls.

Good luck Emy! [Aug. 14th, 2005|09:27 am]
[mood | contemplative]
[music |The Alrights]

Went to Emy's going away party last night at O'Gara's, a bar in Saint Paul. Her brother's band was playing there and blew me away, they reminded me of this band. What's cool is they are not from Minnepolis or St Paul, they're from the Superior city of Duluth (duluth pun).

I talked to the bassist for a second after the show though and it seems they've never heard of Self, but I bet they've at least heard of Prince.

Anways, good luck Emy in all your future endeavors. Enjoy Vancouver! o_o/

We don't get french benefits? [Aug. 10th, 2005|08:44 pm]
Name this tune:

"Ba da dum, bop, ba da dum, bop, ba da dum, bop, ba da dum, bop, ba da da, bop, ba da da, bop , ba da da

BA DA DA DA DA DA

BOP BOP BOP BA, BA DA DA,

BOP BA,

BOP BA DA DA

BOP DA DA, DA, DA, DA, DA DA DA DA DA,

BOP BOP BOP BA,

BA DA DA, BOP BA

BOP BA , DA DA, BAH DA DA, BAH DA DA

BAH DA DA DA DA DA DA"

It took me a half an hour to transpose this. I promise it's real.

Nature of loooove [Aug. 7th, 2005|12:50 am]
Some people love to love things, while others love to hate things. It's a subtle yet important difference. I think I'm more prone to like people who fall into the first category.

It's hard to trust someone when they say they like something though, and easier to trust them when they say they dislike something.

Congratulations! You scored 95!

Scoring well on this test doesn't necessarily mean you're ready for med
school, but it does mean that you can function as an ordinary human
being and there's a chance you won't end up working fast food all your
life. Congrats!

Picture Frame Mayhem [Jul. 24th, 2005|11:10 pm]
So, for the last month or so I've been putzing with this Mattel JuiceBox toy, an $11 dollar device that can display pictures and play mp3s, kind of neat. Well, first I had write to some software to convert jpegs into jbp (juice box photo) files, since the software that shipped with it was windows only. Then I had to juxtapose the device into a picture frame. Well, 4 pencil stubs, some super glue, some hot glue, some soder, and 2 burnt fingers later I finally finished it, and I now have a $25 digital picture frame. Granted, the screen size is tiny, but still, it's pretty neat. PICTURES:
